Muddle East Policy

Across the Middle East, America
Opposes the regimes where tyranny
Holds sway. Against Iran and Syria,
A combination of diplomacy
And sanctions are constraints that underscore
Desire for both democracy and peace,
But willingness to escalate to war
If regional imbalances increase.
Bahrain is therefore armed, so when its king
Has cowed Manama's peaceful protesters,
He will strike fear in Ahmadinejad!
Likewise, the Hashemites are shuttering
Their parliament, and by this show of force,
Our ally chills the hopes of al-Assad!

  1. Thanks for the verse commentary.

For some of my own experiments with various formats in the genre:

Keep up the contributions, and no need to restrict yourself to just sonnets.

  2. Hi Michael,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. While a lot of my poems are in fact sonnets, note that I have published ballads Darth Dexter and The Ballad of the Forty-seven Ronin, and heroic couplets From Now Until Muhammad Mahdi's War, and then there is the unusual metrical contrivance of What Might Have Been that starts with 3 sonnets and then switches to couplets in iambic heptameter.

By the way, how did you find my poetry?

    Thanks,

    Ben

P.S. I like your "All In" on a Bad Hand I will be looking through your other poems, too.
